18 Indians kidnapped from Hong Kong vessel off Nigerian coast released

ABUJA, NIGERIA: 18 Indians, who were kidnapped by pirates from a Hong Kong-flagged vessel near the coast of Nigeria, have been released.

The Indian High Commission in Nigeria took to micro-blogging site Twitter to share the news.

 “@NigerianNavy and Shipping Company have confirmed release of 18 Indian nationals, taken hostage from MT Nave Constallation on 3 December. Thank all stake holders involved in their safe release,” the Indian High Commission tweeted.

ARX Maritime, the agency which tracks the movements of ships especially in pirate-prone regions, said on its website that pirates kidnapped 19 people from the ship on December 3. The kidnapped 19 seafarers are comprised of 18 Indian Nationals and one Turkish national.

According to official sources, the mission had taken up with the Nigerian government following the reports of kidnapping of the Indian crew of the vessel.
