OTTAWA: Divers from the Ottawa dive unit recovered the body of a 19-year-old Punjabi youth at Britannia Beach.
Jashandeep Singh went missing on Saturday while swimming with a group at Britannia Beach.
Ottawa Police say the man was with a group of people who were swimming in the Ottawa River at Britannia Beach in Ottawa’s west-end. Police add members of the group saw the man go underwater and not resurface.
After which, a search was conducted into the early morning hours by boat and foot involving members of the Ottawa Police, Ottawa Paramedics, and Ottawa Fire.
Marine, Dive and Trails Unit divers recovered the Jashandeep’s body at approximately 1:40a.m Sunday morning.
The Ottawa Police Service Victims Crisis Unit counsellors are assisting the witnesses. The West Criminal Investigations Unit will be conducting an investigation to determine what occurred.

Jashandeep Singh was originally from Randhawa Colony in Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab. He had flown to Canada on March 5 to pursue higher studies in information technology.
Deceased’s sibling Navjot Singh said his father Balwinder Singh, who works in Dubai couldn’t fly to India in the wake of Covid outbreak.
The youth’s family is appealing for help from the political leader to to help them in this hour of crisis.
