WEST BENGAL: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said as many as 72 people have died within 24 hours of Cyclone Amphan in the state.
Mamata added that out of the 72 deceased, 15 were from Kolkata. She added that all the deceased were victims of tree and house collapses and electrocution.
Around 5 lakh people have been evacuated in the state.
Although damage has been reported from 8 districts, however, the utmost damage has occurred in the coastal districts, including South and North 24 Parganas.
Cyclone #Amphan has left a trail of devastation beyond our thoughts. While the material damage is substantial, Bengal stands united in this time of crisis.
