AUSTRALIA: Indian-origin truck driver killed in road accident

VICTORIA: A Indian-origin truck driver died after veering off the Calder Highway at Hattah near Mildura in regional Victoria, police say.

Emergency services, including firefighters, were called to the highway between the turn-offs for Hattah-Robinvale Rd and the Old Calder Highway at about 8.30 pm on October 12.

The truck was said to have driven through the scrub before coming to rest near the railway line.

The B-double prime mover crashed into trees and ignited in flames, incinerating the cabin.

The driver identified as 28-year-old Gagandeep Singh Chahal died at the scene.

Originally from Kharar in the Mohali district of Punjab, Chahal moved to Australia nearly five years ago.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
