Ludhiana, NOVEMBER 20:An autobiography entitled “My Toil in Soil,” based on the life of progressive farmer Sardar Jagjit Singh Hara, was released at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today.
The book has been translated into English by Dr SN Sewak, Former Professor and Head, Department of Agricultural Journalism, Languages and Culture, PAU. It may be mentioned that the book is the translation of the autobiography “Dharti Putar Sardar Jagjit Singh Hara,” which was edited in Punjabi by Dr Ranjit Singh, former Joint Director Communication, PAU, in 2018.
Lauding the efforts of Dr Sewak, Vice-Chancellor and Padma Shri Awardee Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon recalled the long association of Sardar Jagjit Singh Hara with PAU and said younger generation must be apprised of the toil, success and contribution of progressive farmers to agriculture. He said Sardar Jagjit Singh Hara motivated PAU scientists to carry out research in new areas. Congratulating Sardar Jagjit Singh Hara, Dr Dhillon said the interaction of PAU students with progressive farmers will be organized in near future in order to give them exposure, he added.
Dr Sewak said that he was inspired by the life of Padma Shri Sardar Jagjit Singh Hara, who has expertise in seed production and cultivates wheat, rice and vegetables. “While translating the book, I realised the vigorous efforts made by Sardar Jagjit Singh Hara to emerge as a successful farmer,” he added.
Sardar Mohinder Singh Dosanjh, a progressive farmer, shared his association with Sardar Jagjit Singh Hara. The book throws light on the entire life of Sardar Jagjit Singh Hara with focus on his family and agriculture, he added.
Dr Amarjit Singh Hayer, Former Professor and Head, Department of Agricultural Journalism, Languages and Culture, PAU, also hailed the contribution of Sardar Jagjit Singh Hara and congratulated the Editor Dr Sewak.
Dr Mohinder Kaur Grewal, President of Punjabi Culture Academy, congratulated Dr Sewak and said this is a platform where vital contributions of scientists as well as farmers are recognised.
Present on the occasion were Dr GK Sangha, Dean, Postgraduate Studies; Dr SS Kukal, Dean, College of Agriculture; Dr Shammi Kapoor, Dean, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities; Dr MIS Gill, Dean, College of Horticulture and Forestry; and other senior officials and faculty of PAU.
