CALIFORNIA: A suspected gunman in the California High School shooting succumbed to his injuries on Friday in hospital, the office of Los Angeles County Sheriff said.
The teenager shot dead two of his classmates while injuring three others before shooting himself in his head.
In a written statement, the sheriff’s office said, “Nathaniel Tennosuke Berhow, 16, a Junior at Saugus High School, was being treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head when he succumbed to his injuries. His mother was present at the time of his passing.”
The teenager pulled a pistol from his backpack and shot five students before shooting himself, authorities said.
A 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy are the two victims who died at a hospital. Four other wounded including the gunmen were rushed to the hospital, officials said.
The teenaged gunman used the last bullet from a .45-caliber pistol on himself, said Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva. It was his 16th birthday, added the Sheriff.
As per sources, the California school shooting took place 20 minutes before the start of school.
However, the investigators say they have no clue of what led the student to open fire.
According to a gun control advocacy group named Everytown, it was the 85th shooting incident of gunfire at a school in 2019.
