CANADA: Two Punjabi Students Died in Highway Crash in Thunder Bay

ONTARIO, CANADA: Two Punjabi students and another person died in a crash between two tractor-trailers in Thunder Bay, Ontario on Thursday night.

The deceased have been identified as Karambir Kahlon and Gurpreet Singh Johal. Both of them belong to the Punjab state of India.

The driver and passenger in one vehicle and the driver of the other vehicle were pronounced dead on the spot, said Ontario Provincial Police.

According to Police, the accident happened on Highway 11/17 about five kilometres west of the Highway 102 junction at around 10:30 pm on Thursday.

“Gurpreet had gone to Canada on study visa about three years ago. He was working at a trucking company on a work permit,” told Gurpreet’s uncle.

Gurpreet’s uncle further told that Karambir, who also died in the crash along with Gurpreet, belong from Granthgarh village in Ajnala Tehsil in Amritsar District of Punjab.

According to sources, Karambir went to Canada four years ago and was the only son of his parents.

Both Karambir and Gurpreet were to return India on February 6 to attend a marriage.
