Deeply Troubled Over Deaths in Delhi Violence: US Foreign Committee

WASHINGTON: The US House Foreign Committee is “deeply troubled” over deaths in connection with violence in parts of northeast Delhi, said the Committee on Wednesday.

“Deeply troubled by the deaths from the communal violence in India over the past couple of days. The right to protest is a key aspect of democracy, but they must remain peaceful and police must ensure the safety of all,” tweeted Committee chairman Eliot Engel.

At least 34 people, including a police head constable, have died while over 200 people have sustained serious injuries.

Over the past three days, arson connected with violence in the parts of northeast Delhi has damaged properties worth crores of rupees.

This comes a day after US President Donald Trump’s first official state visit spanning two-days was over.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police have arrested 130 people and has registered 18 FIRs in connection with the violence.
