The fact that Punjab is still among the worst-hit states with Covid-19 , seems to have failed the concern authorities to push them out of deep slumber. The quickness shown by Punjab government to reopen majority of industrial units and other commercial establishment may create serious problems as majority of residents are not taking care of social distancing.
Within few hours of government relaxing lockdown from morning to evening, almost all roads of state have started witnessing heavy traffic. Residents are out on two-wheelers, four wheelers and while many can be seen walking on roadside in groups to reach at their destinations like markets, bus stands and hospitals. The long curfew has failed to inculcate the habit of social distancing among Punjab residents, who have come on roads like prisoners do after the end of their imprisonment.
The failure of cops and civil authorities in taking punitive action against violators, who are not using masks and maintaining social distancing, is also equally responsible for putting the state on grave risk of facing the spread of infection again. In latest death, Jalandhar woman died while 11 more persons tested positive for the disease in Punjab and the number of total patients have already reached to 2,095.
Though Punjab government has been trying to make all arrangements to deal with any emergency situation and also notified an ordinance to bring private clinical establishments into the ambit of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, but the lack of strictness to implement mandatory guidelines, can create serious problems.
