Fugitive Indian Gangster Ravi Pujari Arrested in South Africa

NEW DELHI: In another success for agencies, Fugitive gangster Ravi Pujari was rearrested from South Africa early on Saturday.

Pujari was nabbed from a village in South Africa by the Senegal authorities in a joint operation with India’s RAW and Mangaluru Police.

The underworld don Ravi Pujari will be extradited to India soon. And according to Interpol India, the extradition process is already underway.

Sources said senior officials from the Union home ministry and foreign affairs ministry had been coordinating with Senegal authorities to get Pujari deported at the earliest.

As per the media reports, a team from Karnataka police is presently in Senegal to complete the extradition process as the Supreme Court of Senegal has rejected Pujari’s plea against his extradition to India.

However, it remains unclear if he will be taken to Mumbai, Mangaluru or New Delhi.

The mafia don has an Interpol red corner notice issued against him.

Pujari, who had been on the run for more than 20 years, was arrested by the Senegal Police in Dakar in January last year.

On January 19, 2019, the Senegal Police had received a tip-off about Pujari’s presence in a barbershop, following which they arrested him from the spot. However, after being granted bail by a local court, he jumped the bail and fled the West African nation.

Pujari, who started off as a Chhota Rajan aide, has over 200 offences of murder and extortion against him.
