Indian Hockey Team Defeats Japan In FIH Women's Series Finals

The Indian women’s hockey team returned home on Monday night after their team defeated Japan to win the FIH Women’s Series Finals. Players received a warm welcome at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport where members of the media and several fans applauded their efforts in Japan. On Sunday, team India defeated Japan by 3-1 in the final match of the tournament at the Hiroshima Hockey Stadium. Captain Rani Rampal gave the team an early lead while drag-flicker Gurjit Kaur scored two goals in the match. On the other side, Japan managed to score at least one goal. Throughout the match, Rani was in a superb form and was adjudged the player of the tournament and Gurjit was the top-scorer. When Indian women’s team made it to the FIH Women’s Series Finals summit clash, they secured a place in the FIH Olympic Qualifiers 2019. Calling the victory an ‘exceptional outcome’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the team for their performance.
