An Indian has been charged with sexual assault while working as a United States military contractor in Afghanistan.
On November 6, a federal grand jury charged 35-year-old Lokesh Naik in the District of Columbia with one count of abusive sexual contact and two counts of aggravated sexual abuse, Brian Benczkowski Assistant Attorney General of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division said.
Naik was arrested by US military authorities in Afghanistan on November 8 and he appeared before US Magistrate Judge Harveyvia video teleconference.
As per provisions of the Military Extraterritorial Jurisdiction Act (MEJA), Naik was ordered detained and removed to the US.
Lokesh Naik Naik arrived at Joint Base near New Jersey in the custody of Deputy US Marshals by a military transport aircraft.
According to the accusation, Naik allegedly entered the room of a US national and sexually assaulted her while working as an employee of a US military contractor in Afghanistan’s Operating Base Fenty in August.
