The Supreme Court on sought a response from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on a plea filed by P Chidambaram seeking bail in the INX Media money-laundering case.
The bench comprising Justice Banumathi, Bopanna and Hrishikesh Roy has posted the case next on November 26.
P Chidambaram had approached the top court challenging the judgment of the Delhi High Court denying him bail in the money laundering case.
The Delhi high court had denied Chidambara’s bail petition last week saying that a wrong message will go to the public as the allegations against the 74-year-old are serious.
Senior Advocates Kapil Sibal and Dr A M Singhvi appeared for Chidambaram and submitted that he had been under custody for past 91 days.
Chidambaram was first arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on August 21 in the INX Media corruption case and was granted bail by the Supreme Court on October 22.
Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, who was arrested by the ED in the money laundering case on October 16, is presently in judicial custody till November 27 under the order of a trial court.
