NEW DELHI: Manu Sharma, 1999 Jessica Lal murder case convict, has been released from Tihar Jail on grounds of good behaviour after he was awarded life imprisonment in 2006 by Delhi High Court.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor allowed the release after Sentence Review Board’s recommendation.
Manu Sharma also is known as Siddartha Vashishta is the son of then Haryana Congress leader Venod Sharma.
On 30 May 1999, Sharma had shot model Jessica Lal dead at a party after she refused to serve him a drink.
This incident triggered sharp protests across the country.
After which, Sharma was awarded life imprisonment in 2006.
A trial court had acquitted him but the high court reversed the order and the Supreme Court later upheld his life sentence in April 2010.
