After opposition leaders, now congress MPs including Partap Singh Bajwa and Shamsher Singh Dullo on Monday demanded an impartial and thorough probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate into the illegal liquor business in the state. The latest joint offensive of both against Punjab congress government and its CM Capt Amarinder Singh government has raised serious questions as party’s own leaders have started raising questions about the working of their government after Punjab’s worst hooch tragedy.
Both are former presidents of Punjab Congress and know the working of state government in the best way. Both met Punjab governor VP Singh Badnore and announced that its the failure of Punjab congress government, which has caused biggest hooch tragedy of Punjab.
Its an open secret that leaders of almost all political parties are involved in the smuggling of illicit liquor in the state as its a business of multiple crores. Whenever government changes in state, smugglers also change their bosses and they started paying to the ruling party leaders. In past also many social activists of state have gone on record to accuse big politicians of state of helping liquor smugglers. But since ruling party leaders have immense power, they are always successful in crushing the resentment against their government.
Both Bajwa and Dullo never have cordial relations with Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh. They have openly been opposing Punjab CM on various issues like mining, cable and liquor Mafia. Congress leaders have always been opposing them for speaking against their CM. But the latest demand of both has the potential to create serious problems for Punjab Congress government if central BJP government shows any interest for thorough investigations.
