Manipur govt appoints Mirabai Chanu as Additional SP after Olympics silver win

NEWS DESK: Manipur government has appointed weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who won the silver medal in women’s 49kg event at Tokyo Olympics, as the Additional Superintendent of Police (Sports) in the state police department.

Chanu became only the second Indian weightlifter to clinch a medal in the history of the Olympics after Karnam Malleswari bagged bronze in the 69kg category at the 2000 Sydney Games – when the weightlifting arena was opened to women for the first time.

Manipur govt appoints Mirabai Chanu as Additional SP after Olympics silver win

Chanu is currently employed with Indian Railways as a Ticket Collector. Notably, she is the first weightlifter from India to win a silver medal in Olympics history.
