Mr CM its not a mistake, but a crime

The refusal of Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh to dismiss his DGP Dinkar Gupta for his comments on Kartarpur corridor has not only confirmed the unparallel influence of bureaucrats over state government, but it has also exposed the declining power of it’s elected representatives as elected MLAs of SAD and AAP failed to ensure action against DGP for his insulting remarks.

The bold stand of CM that his DGP would not resign, is likely to multiply the problems in coming days as our history is full with many examples to prove that pampered cops had always crossed their legal limits to please their political bosses.

Gupta had raised questions about the intent of Pakistan for agreeing to open Kartarpur corridor and also said that visa-free passage for Sikh pilgrims was a huge security challenge from a terrorism point of view. But after facing flak from almost all politicians, though DGP expressed his sincere regret, but his regret can never assuage the hurt feelings of Sikhs across the globe.

After a drama of two days, not only Sikhs, but almost all Punjab residents had high hopes for strict action against DGP, who has crossed his limits and set a wrong precedent for all Punjab police. But the opened refusal of CM for action by saying that “Anybody can make mistake; even I make mistakes. He (DGP) has already apologised for his mistake. This issue is over,” has disappointed all.

But CM has forgotten that Sikhs had prayed for years to see the opening of Kartarpur and the comment of DGP is not a mistake, but its crime calling for strictest action.

The apology is unacceptable to all as his mistake is very big and residents had been waiting for his sacking or resignation only.  Punjab CM must have set an example by taking strict action, but like other politicians, he also surrendered before his DGP and took his side by betraying the state residents, who have elected him as their CM.

Even the acting Jathedar of Akal Takht Giani Harpreet Singh along with all SGPC members had been demanding action, but still, there had been no action.

Punjab CM must sack his DGP immediately to avoid further problems as nothing is more important for  Sikhs than Kartarpur Sahib and they will never allow the DGP to escape only with regret.
