After facing heat for the spread of Covid-19 across the country through the members of their community after a meeting of the Islamic preachers’ organisation Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi, Muslims have proved on the auspicious occasion of Eid that Jamaat event was unintentional. Muslims did not celebrate Eid in a traditional way and followed the guidelines of the government to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
Since this Eid has come under the shadow of Covid19, Muslims across the country have shunned all celebrations. Muslims have decided against celebrations despite government giving partial relaxations in lockdown and allowing shopping, travel and giving other permissions to allow the celebrations. But even after getting relaxations, Muslims preferred to stay indoors and celebrated Eid with their family members and the usual crowd has been missing in almost all parts of the country.
Going a step forward, the members of the community did not ask for the opening of Mosques and Idgahs as they are aware that if these religious places were opened by the government, it would have become difficult for authorities to prevent the gathering at these places.
Not only in peaceful areas but community members supported the fight of the Indian government against Covid-19 in disturbed areas also. In Jammu and Kashmir residents preferred to stay indoors while at other places also, gatherings for prayers, outdoor celebrations and usual public events were cancelled after the government sought the support of community members.
The Muslims have proved that they are standing with the Indian government in this hour of crisis, but the promoters of Hindutva are yet to offer any praise for Muslims. Though many members of Sikhs community have offered flowers, organized small Iftar parties and even lauded the Muslims for celebrating Eid in the simplest manner, but the lack of required positive posturing from Hinduism promoters, has raised serious questions about the merit of their allegations against Muslims.
