NEW DELHI: National Sikh Games 2020 will be hosted in January next year across various venues in New Delhi.
Modelled replica of Australian Sikh Games, National Sikh Games will feature around 2500 athletes from 10 states of the country for over 3 days, January 9 to 11.
Athletes will be participating in more than a dozen sporting competitions, said Manjinder Singh Sirsa, president of Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC).
The event will be organized by Delhi based philanthropic Jap Jaap Sewa Trust in collaboration with DSGMC and other sports and cultural associations.
National Sikh Games 2020 is dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Sikh founder, Guru Nanak Dev.
The event offers sports competitions such as Badminton, Hockey, Athletics, Shooting, Powerlifting, Basketball, Table Tennis, Chess, Tug-Of-War, Cycling, etc.
Moreover, the event provides a platform for young Sikh girls and boys to showcase their talents either in sports as well in traditional sports competitions.
“We have already got signals and highly motivating response from various Sikh Celebrities to be part of the Sikh Games by joining in expert panels for finalising all the guidelines, rules-regulations in the manual of Sikh Games,” said Manjinder Sirsa.
Sirsa added that depending on the response of Sikh sportspersons and the community, National Sikh Games will be an annual event.
