Pakistan Reports First Suspected Coronavirus Case in Abbottabad

ABBOTTABAD, PAKISTAN: The first suspected coronavirus case was reported in Abbottabad, a city in Pakistan.

The suspected person had recently returned to China – the heart of the epidemic.

The person has been put under observation at the Ayub Medical Hospital (AMH) in Abbottabad. He hails from Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Coronavirus originated from a wild animal market in the Chinese city of Wuhan in Hubei Province in December last year.

So far, the epidemic has killed 1,519 people in China alone while more than 76,000 people have been infected globally.

There are, however, no confirmed cases of coronavirus in Pakistan. But there had been suspected cases in the past.

Meanwhile, two people have died from the epidemic outside the mainland: a man from Wuhan in the Philippines and a 39-year-old man in Hong Kong.

Apart from Britain, Italy and Germany, other European nations with cases of the virus include Spain, Sweden, Russia, France, Belgium and Finland.
