EDINBURG: Pam Gosal created history when she became the first member of the Scottish Parliament who recited Gurbani on the occasion of taking oath as Member Parliament.
When her name was announced for formal oath-taking, she first recited Khalsa salutation, ‘Waheguru Ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji ki Fateh’, which is a slogan of wishing people present.
Gosal then recited the hymn of Gurbani written by Guru Nanak Dev Ji called ‘Mool Mantar’ in the Sikh religion. She had brought a religious book (Gutka Sahib) with her and after taking oath she bowed before it and again recited Khalsa salutation. While taking oath she kept Gutka Sahib in her hand.
As the first female Sikh MSP I am humbled to have been able to read the Mool Mantar, a Sikh prayer before taking the oath as a Member of Scottish Parliament. I am excited to begin my journey as an MSP for @ScotTories make my community proud. pic.twitter.com/mgaiqYCtjX— Pam Gosal MSP (@PamGosalMSP) May 13, 2021
