School Van Catches Fire In Punjab’s Sangrur Killing 4 Children

SANGRUR, PUNJAB: A school van caught fire at Longowal in Sangrur district on Saturday killing 4 children.

There were a total of 12 students in the van.

Eight children were taken out of the van safely by the people working in the nearby fields, said the police.

According to sources, four children ageing 4 to 5 years were charred to death.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.

He said in a tweet: “Very sad to learn of the news from Sangrur, where we lost 4 children because their school van caught fire. Injured have been rushed to the hospital. DC & SSP Sangrur are on the spot & I have ordered a magisterial enquiry. Guilty will be strictly punished”.

MP Bhagwant Mann and Sunam’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Aman Arora have also reached the accident site.

It is, however, immediately not clear what caused the fire in the van.

The children were returning home from school when the incident occurred, said sources.
