Punjabi actor and comedian Jaswinder Bhalla’s brother-in-law committed suicide at his residence in Shastri Nagar, Model Town.
34-year-old Alokdeep Singh, a youth dealing in sale and purchase of cars hanged himself from a ceiling fan at his house.
Model Town police have recovered a suicide note from Alokdeep’s room. In the suicide note, Alok said that he had decided to end his life due to some financial matters.
Alok is survived by his elderly parents, five-year-old son and wife, Manpreet Kaur.
Manpreet Kaur is a lecturer at Government College for Girls and was the first to see her husband’s lifeless body.
The Model Town station house officer (SHO) inspector Pawan Kumar said the suicide note stated that the accused, Karanjeet, Tribhuvan and Harinder Singh, owed him ₹50 lakh and were not returning the money despite repeated requests, which is why he was depressed.
“On the basis of the suicide note and the statement of Manpreet, who is Jaswinder Bhalla’s sister, a case under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the IPC has been registered against the trio,” the SHO added.
The body was sent to civil hospital for post-mortem and the police officials are investigating the case.
