Senator Kamala Harris Announces 2020 Presidential Run

California Senator Kamala Harris announced Monday that she will be running for presidency in 2020. The former California Attorney General, a first-term senator known for tough questioning of President Donald Trump’s judicial nominees. A crowded and diverse field of declared or likely democrats now includes three prominent women senators – Harris, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren. Today, all democrats are targeting President Trump. 45-year old Harris chose 90th birthday of the slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Junior’s Day to represent the historic nature of her candidacy. Instead of going to Iowa or New Hampshire first, Harris will start campaigning this week in South Carolina, where African- American voters hold sway in the democratic primary. Pairing the announcement, Harris released a campaign video on Twitter and said, “Truth. Justice. Decency. Equality. Freedom. Democracy. These aren’t just words. They’re the values we as Americans cherish. And they’re all on the line now.”   (Harleen Sandhu)
