CHANDIGARH: The name of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has been added to the FIR lodged against 7 Dera followers in 2015 ‘bir’ theft case.
This information was provided by Jalandhar range deputy inspector general (DIG) Ranbir Singh Khatra, who heads the Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up to probe the case.
The SIT on July 4 arrested the 7 in Faridkot district in connection with the Bargari sacrilege incident.
Punjab had witnessed a series of sacrilege incidents during 2015. The accused stole a ‘bir’ of Guru Granth Sahib from a gurdwara of Burj Jawahar Singh Wala village on June 1, 2015.
The incidents led to widespread protests across the state.
After this, torn pages of the ‘bir’ found at Bargari on October 12, the same year.
