Two National-Level Hockey Players Shot Dead in Patiala

PATIALA: A PSPCL employee and his son allegedly shot dead two national-level hockey players outside a dhaba (roadside eatery) in Pratap Nagar area of Patiala.

The deceased have been identified as Amrik Singh, a national-level player and Simranjit Singh alias Happy, who had recently been selected for the Indian squad.

Giving the details of the incident, Police officials said the incident occurred when Amrik and Simranjit were having dinner at an eatery at Manjit Nagar. Both were PSPCL employees.

Police said that both hockey players had an altercation with the father-son duo over a petty issue.

Angry son fired shots at Amrik and Simranjit with his double-barrelled rifle and fleed from the spot, leaving Amrik and Simranjit dead.

After receiving the information about the incident, the Punjab police reached the spot to investigate the matter.

The bodies have been shifted to the mortuary of Government Rajindra Hospital.
