UAE creates fake rain using drones to tackle 50°C heat

DUBAI: Scientists in United Arab Emirates (UAE) are using cloud-blasting drones that fly into clouds and unleash electrical charges to produce downpours amid 50°C heat in Dubai.

The UAE’s cloud seeding operations are part of an ongoing $15 million mission to generate rain in the country.

The rain is formed using drone technology that gives clouds an electric shock to 'cajole them' into clumping together and producing precipitation

The rainmaking technology, known as “cloud seeding,” gives clouds an electric shock that makes then clump together to produce precipitation.

In the blazing sunshine at Al-Ain airport, a twin-propeller Beechcraft stands ready to fly into action at a moment's notice on a cloud-seeding mission (pictured above). The plane is armed with an array of salt flares which are fired into a promising clouds to increase condensation and hopefully trigger a downpour

A video of the downpour was also shared on the official Twitter handle of UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology. The video shows rain pouring down on a highway as the cars navigate through it.
