UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson Tests Positive for Coronavirus

LONDON: The UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has tested positive for coronavirus and is self isolating.

Boris Johnson took to social media platform Twitter to share the news that he is positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus).

“Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus. I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus. Together we will beat this,” Johnson tweeted with hashtag #StayHomeSaveLives.

Boris Johnson was tested by NHS staff, on the personal advice of England’s chief medical officer, Professor Chris Whitty, said Downing Street.

The Prime Minister will still be in charge of the government’s handling of the crisis, added the statement by Downing Street.

Coronavirus has so far claimed 578 lives in the United Kingdom with 11,658 confirmed cases.

Earlier this week, Prince of Wales tested positive for the coronavirus.

Prince Charles (71) is to be displaying mild symptoms “but otherwise remains in good health”, said a spokesman.
