Sikh MP Tanmanjeet Dhesi appointed as Parliamentary Private Secretary

LONDON: The first turbaned MP in UK’s House of Commons, Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi has been made Parliamentary Private Secretary by Labour Party chief Jeremy Corbyn.

Appointed Corbyn’s key aide Dhesi shared this news on his twitter handle. He said: “Honoured to have been asked by @jeremycorbyn to become his Parliamentary Private Secretary. As PPS for the Leader of the Opposition, while it’s a great opportunity for me to learn, I will do my utmost to serve him, our @UKLabour Party and our country in this important role.”

Last September, the Sikh lawmaker hit the headlines when he made a fiery speech attacking Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Labour MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi slammed Boris and asked him to apologize for comparing Muslim women who wear face-covering veils to “letterboxes.”

Dhesi, whose family hails from Raipur village in Punjab’s Jalandhar, is the UK Labour Party MP from Slough in south-east England.
