AMRITSAR: The installation of solar plant for power supply at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib was started today by the Shiromani Akali Dal after prayers. This solar plant is being serviced by United Sikh Mission USA.

Shiromani Committee President Bibi Jagir Kaur while inaugurating the plant said that soon solar-powered power generation would be started for the holy shrine.

This will not only send a message of the use of natural resources to the Sangat but will also lead to a huge reduction in electricity expenditure.

In this regard, Bibi Jagir Kaur said that at present a plant of 700 KW is being set up as the government has not given approval for setting up a large plant in any open space. He said that the SGPC had sought approval from the Punjab government for setting up a solar plant at Gurdwara Satlani Sahib near Amritsar.

A meeting was held with the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh in this regard but no approval has been received yet. Now the SGPC has started installing solar plants on the roof of Mata Ganga residence. He said that in the future whenever the approval of the government is obtained, another 2 MW solar plant would be set up. He said that if the approval was given to set up a high-capacity solar plant, it would enable the SGPC to use it for other shrines besides Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib. He said the government should give its approval soon.
