A 74-year-old woman is thought to have become the world’s oldest mother after delivering twin girls.
The woman identified as Erramatti Mangamma and her husband E Raja Rao, were not able to conceive a child despite consulting several doctors and temples.
After being married to her husband for more than 50 years, the couple almost gave up on becoming parents.
The couple came to know about the IVF when their 55-year-old neighbor became pregnant through this procedure.
Reportedly, Erramatti Mangayamma conceived the girls through In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) treatment and gave birth by caesarean section.
Umashankar said they went ahead with the process after a team of doctors conducted various tests and found that she is fit to become pregnant.
74-year-old, Mangayamma conceived in the very first cycle of the IVF procedure.
Subsequently, three teams were formed to monitor her general health, nutrition and cardiac health.
To ensure she remained mentally strong, Mangayamma was also subjected to several rounds of psychological counseling.
During her pregnancy, Mangayamma remained in hospital and was monitored thoroughly by ten doctors for nine months.
Mangayamma gave birth in a private hospital in Guntur district, in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
The caesarean operation was performed buy a team comprising four doctors.
As per reports, the babies were conceived using the sperom of Mangayamma’s husband.
The couple’s IVF specialist, Dr Sanakkayala Umasankar said, “This is a medical miracle and both the mother and babies are doing fine.”
Earlier, in India, 70-year-old Daljinder Kaur was considered to be the oldest woman in the world to give birth to a son named Arman.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the world record holder was Anatolia Vertadella, a 101-year-old Italian woman.
